First Basking Shark DNA Sample of the Year!
We were out on Happy Jack, the Manx Basking Shark Watch research boat yesterday. We found a beautiful 6m long shark, its dorsal fin almost completely undamaged. We did a full basking shark passport on it, HD dorsal fin photos left and right and a skin swab for DNA analysis at Aberdeen University. Thank you to Scott and Claire Pearce for being our volunteer crew and to to Anna and Adam for following safety instructions to the letter and for helping with the DNA processing. Please note that we have to have a scientific license from DEFA to conduct this scientific research.
