Her previous work as a marine environmental impact assessor focused mostly in the eastern Irish Sea. She undertook her PhD research on impacts and recovery from marine pollution in Manx waters, based at the Port Erin Marine Laboratory and Her degree in Marine Biology was also at the Port Erin Marine Laboratory.

Lara grew up on the Island and learnt to dive here too, which is where her passion for marine life has stemmed from. She enjoys seeing the diverse marine life below the water as much as the basking sharks and cetaceans when out on the dive boat.
