Shark Details
Note from Jackie Hall: We have our first Manx basking shark sighting of 2020!
A man called Robbie reports that he watched a basking shark swim across Douglas bay on the 18th April. He watched it for about 20 minutes as it swam from the Douglas end to Onchan . The tide was fully in and the shark was about 200 meters out. He hadn’t realised how early it was for them until someone from the Manx Wildlife Trust told him that the season doesn’t normally start until May.
The sea was nice and calm and yes nice and it was sunny. He took a picture on his phone but the zoom wasn’t powerful enough to see the shark on the photo.
It’s interesting that the first sharks of the season are often ‘off piste’ in places where you don’t often see them at the height of the season..
Environment Details
High tide.
