Third Satellite-Tagged British Basking Shark Travels Down African Coast

A few months ago we had no satellite tagging evidence that the basking sharks seen in British waters might travel to African waters, now we have evidence from three animals tagged by 2 research groups. Last summer a basking shark was tagged off the Northwest coast of Scotland by Dr Matt Witt’s team. It was soon apparent that it was travelling down the African coast (seeĀ http://www.seaturtle.org/tracking/index.shtml?project_id=753Ā for latest map). Now news has broken that one satellite tagged by Emmett Johnson’s team from Ireland has taken a similar route. We DO live in interesting times for basking shark research!
